Two Chatham Central Wrestlers Are State Champions

Two Chatham Central High School wrestlers, Shelton Sales and Carson Joyce, won their weight divisions during the state wrestling championships held in Greensboro on Saturday, February 27.

Sales, a junior, wrestled at 135 pounds and defeated Chandler Gooch from Murphy High School in the championship match. He finished his season with a perfect 46-0 record.   Sales was also named the Most Outstanding Wrestler in the Regional Wrestling Tournament.

Joyce, a sophomore, wrestled at 171 pounds and defeated Jacob Fregia from East Surry High School in the championship match.

"This was a great end to our season and to have both state champions returning is even better.  Both of these kids went to the state tournament with one goal in mind and left the tournament with that goal being accomplished and no one will ever be able to take that away from them.  They are state champions" said Joe Little, Chatham Central wrestling coach.

These student athletes bring the first state championships to Chatham Central the school has had since 1998.
