Seventh Blog from Governor's School East - Chelsea Gardner, rising senior, Northwood High School

Hello!

It feels like its been forever since I posted a blog entry. Unfortunately, I had been sick with a stomach flu that prevented me from attending classes and writing blogs. I feel better than ever now and I'd like to think it was because I came home for mid-term break and got much-needed rest. Thanks mom and dad for the Chicken Noodle Soup! :) I return for the last three weeks of GSE today! I am looking forward to it because I know that they have planned to make it memorable!

My mom went out and bought me a costume for the party. It was originally a masquerade party but the student's got together and changed it. A lot of my friends are going dressed as Disney princesses but I had already picked a mask for the masquerade theme so it was too late to change. So, I'm going to go for something more tribal like the Avatar costume. We will see how it turns out...I'm sure someone is going to bring stage make-up that I can use to add more flair to it.
Parent's day (a.k.a the day our parents come and take us the burden" off the TA/C's hands so they can have a normal weekend. haha) was AWESOME! My parents came to my Area I class and met Chuck Sullivan. Chuck made us recite our poems and I read my "Time" poem. It's not my favorite poem but I thought my parent's would enjoy it- so I read it. We had all discussed earlier how we have a safe haven here at GSE. And when the parent's come, they have a tendency to interrupt that flow. Because no one wants to really open up but I like for my parents to hear about all the interesting stuff we've been doing.

After that, I met with my Area 3 teacher. The parents were strictly prohibited from attending that class. Mainly because of the "safe haven" theory I mentioned prior to this paragraph. We talked about our community service project and we are calling it "Back to Our Roots: Three Hours of Love, Peace, and Culture." We are supporting underpaid, starving musicians who refuse to conform to society, by continuing to do what they love and are passionate about a.k.a "playing music". We are also chasing sustainability by recycling, keeping the environment clean, and informing others ( if we continue to live the way we do...we will destroy mother earth). We accomplished one aspect of the projecting by selling 104 t-shirts which was way over our goal of 74. We will have our festival/concert on Alumni Day.

Following this, my parents saw the chorus concert. It is safe to say, that we have some talented art, theatrical, dance, instrumental, and chorus students here...definitely the best in the state! I  had never witnessed anything like that before. They harmonize so well and their voice ranges are incredible. I was really proud to be able to say I witnessed such an incredible event!

Tonight we will see another Area II film. I'm looking forward to reuniting with my GSE friends but I'm going to miss home!
