Second Day of Governor's School East - Chelsea Gardner, rising senior, Northwood High School

Today has been jam-packed with tons of fun and various social activities. I had my first Area 1 class today and I ended up getting placed in Poetry with Mr. Chuck Sullivan. I'm actually looking forward to it! Mr. Sullivan is an amazing teacher and I know I will learn a lot. Our first homework assignment is to take 14 different lines from 14 different poems and try to form a sonnet. The goal is to be mysterious so I'm looking forward to trying it out. According to the GSE staff, the homework they give is not busy work- it has an actual purpose. Therefore, we make the most out of the experience.

I also attended my Area III class today and we talked about our values. We then answered questions about our values and picked the most important one. Later, we engaged in group discussion. I guess it is one of those things where you get what you give.

The food is great- they have a wide variety! I meet new people everyday and today I even tried yoga! It was surprisingly hard and strenuous. I may go back or just try something different. I think tomorrow we might have a songwriter circle and the acapella group is definitely tomorrow! So I have a busy day ahead. I can't wait! :)

I also joined the newspaper to get more involved with journalism. We decided on a title today, it will be called the Eastern Star. I was assigned the task of writing for the student/teacher profiles. Basically i'm going to handle the interviewing process, etc. Our entry is due by 5:00 pm tomorrow- so I have a lot of work to do.

Until then,
Chelsea Gardner
