I can't believe that this is almost the end of the first week of GSE! It feels like I've been here forever and I'm meeting so many people and making genuine friendships.
Wednesday night we watched two films, "Obedience" and "My Lai". We were told to take notes on the films because we would be discussing them in our Area 3 classes.
I definitely was moved by each film...I learned so much. I remember scratching the surface of both topics in classes (Psychology and US History) but these movies went more into depth. I felt disappointed, angry, and shocked after both films. Afterwards, a group of us formed a circle of silence on the quad because none of us were ready to talk about what we had just witnessed. I can't wait to discuss the films in class. I would have to say that the student-based discussions are one of the many things I love about GSE! It's only the first week and I can already say it's such a rewarding experience! It' s a great environment for learning and social activites. I have been getting involved with so many different things...yoga, newspaper staff, acapella, and even improvisational dancing. Improv Dance was nothing like I've experienced before. It was a lot of body contact, tons of sweat, and rolling around on the floor. Chances are I probably will not go again but it was still an interesting experience! ha
Later that day, Dr. Nacoste came and spoke to us about relationships. He studied social psychology and is a professor at NC State University. I really enjoyed his lecture
I feel like I got a lot out of it. I also went to Open Mic Night and was amazed at all the talented students at GSE! We are supposed to write an autobiographical poem in poetry class soon. So the homework is light, the food is wonderful, and the people are amazing. I know for sure that this is going to be the best summer ever! Tonight we are supposed to attend a Movie Night under the Stars. I think that should be really exciting! :)
